FAQs
-
I recommend attending weekly for the first 6-8 weeks while we are building a therapeutic relationship and working to establish goals for therapy. Once you are comfortable, together we can decide if spacing out every other week will allow you to still meet clinical goals. Some trauma therapies, like EMDR, recommend meeting weekly while in active processing. I only recommend meeting monthly if you are in the maintenance stage of your therapy process.
-
There is no set length of time for therapy. Some premarital and couples therapy can be completed in 2-6 months, whereas trauma therapy for childhood or systemic traumas can often take more than a year. For individual therapy, I recommend planning to commit at least six months to your therapy process. Change, growth, and healing take time and don’t happen overnight.
-
My standard session length is a 50-minute a session. There are some exceptions to this length. All intakes are 60 minutes, and trauma therapy and couples therapy often require longer sessions. You are also more than welcome to request a longer session if you want more time for your sessions.
-
My standard session rate is $150 for a 50-minute session and $180 for a 60+ minute session. There are exceptions for both lower and higher rates.

We recommend starting with a free 15-minute phone or virtual consultation to help determine if the therapeutic working relationship would be a good fit for your needs and my therapeutic skillset. Once we have agreed to work together, then you will schedule an intake to officially begin the counseling process.

Your intake session is a 60-minute appointment where we begin our work together. This first meeting is relaxed and focused on getting to know one another while covering the basics of the counseling process. I recognize it can take time to feel comfortable opening up, so I’ll always move at your pace. You’re welcome to share as much or as little as feels right for you. This time is about creating a safe space to start your journey.
If you’re ready to take the next step, click here to be redirected to the client portal and book your first session.

After you schedule an intake session, I’ll send your intake paperwork electronically through our secure client portal. This paperwork includes the required consent forms for us to legally begin therapy, as well as a demographic form that helps me learn more about you. Completing this ahead of time also gives you a chance to prepare for our first meeting. I do ask that all intake paperwork be finished before your intake session so we can make the most of our time together.
-
During your intake session, you can share whatever you feel comfortable with. In our first several sessions, we’ll spend time building our relationship and identifying your goals for therapy. I believe it’s very important that you feel safe, comfortable, and able to trust me as your therapist. Everyone’s pace is different. Depending on your personality, life history, and past experiences with therapy, it may take more or less time to feel fully at ease. There is no “right” timeline, and it’s perfectly okay if it takes several sessions before you’re ready to share more vulnerable experiences or emotions. I never want you to feel rushed in this process. My goal is to create a safe space where you can take the time you need and feel comfortable before opening up.
-
Once we begin working together at New Chapter Therapy, deciding what to focus on in therapy, and in what order, will be a collaborative process between us. It’s often helpful if you come in with a goal or two in mind, and then we can talk through which ones to prioritize. If you’re not sure what your goals are yet, that’s completely okay. I can help you explore what might be most helpful to work on. I’m trained in several different therapeutic approaches, and together we’ll choose what best fits your needs and goals. Therapy looks different for everyone, so it’s important not to compare your process to someone else’s or to what you think “should” be happening. Your journey is unique, and we’ll honor that as we walk through it together.

You have the right to receive a “Good Faith Estimate” explaining how much your medical care will cost.
Under the law, healthcare providers need to give patients who donʼt have insurance or who are not using insurance an estimate of the bill for medical items and services.
You have the right to receive a Good Faith Estimate for the total expected cost of any non-emergency items or services. This includes related costs like medical tests, prescription drugs, equipment, and hospital fees.
Make sure your healthcare provider gives you a Good Faith Estimate in writing at least 1 business day before your medical service or item. You can also ask your healthcare provider, and any other provider you choose, for a Good Faith Estimate before you schedule an item or service.
If you receive a bill that is at least $400 more than your Good Faith Estimate, you can dispute the bill.
Make sure to save a copy or picture of your Good Faith Estimate. For questions or more information about your right to a Good Faith Estimate, visit www.cms.gov/nosurprises or call 615-988-4763.
If you are a current client and would like to request a Good Faith Estimate, please complete the form below. Your Good Faith estimate will be emailed to you within 24 business hours.
